Valve has revealed that the success of Nintendo's Switch OLED variant partly inspired the company to create their own OLED version of the Steam Deck. Touted as having superior display fidelity, the upcoming Steam Deck OLED will offer an improved screen size, HDR support, wifi 6E connectivity for faster downloads, an enhanced battery life of 30 to 50 percent, and a lighter weight while managing to stay cooler during use. Two OLED models will be launched with storage options of 512GB and 1TB, priced at €569 and €679, respectively.

The existing 256GB LCD model will still be available for €419, and the other LCD versions are currently being discounted until sold out. The new OLED Steam Deck can be ordered starting November 16th from the official website. The enhancements of the OLED version mark significant improvements in the handheld gaming experience, following the trend set by the popular Nintendo Switch OLED.

In addition to these upgrades, Valve has announced that after current stocks are depleted, the LCD versions with 64GB and 512GB will no longer be available for purchase. This strategy seems to be a push towards encouraging consumers to adopt the newer OLED technology. Gamers looking for the latest in handheld gaming might want to act quickly to either secure the discounted LCD versions or to place their orders for the upcoming OLED models.
