Amazon Games has announced that the MMORPG New World will shut down on January 31, 2027, just months after significant layoffs within the development team. The final season, titled "Nighthaven," will see an extension leading up to the shutdown. Currently, the game has been removed from storefronts, meaning only existing players can access it until the closure date. In a heartfelt message, the remaining New World team expressed gratitude to players for their dedication and excitement shared within the game world. However, the COO of Rust, Alistair McFarlane, expressed interest in purchasing New World for $25 million, suggesting a possible lifeline for the title, stating, "Games should never die."

Will New World ever return after its closure?

While there’s no official plan for New World to return post-closure, the interest shown by industry figures could signify a potential revival, depending on negotiations and future developments. However, as it stands, once the servers shut down, the game will remain inaccessible.

New World, set in the mystical land of Aeternum, was launched in 2021 and was intended to be a groundbreaking MMORPG experience with rich exploration and combat mechanics. Despite initial interest, the game struggled to maintain its player base, leading to the unfortunate decision to shut down the servers. Players have spent considerable time crafting their adventures within this unique world, hopeful for a brighter future for the game's legacy.
