In recent news, Toby Fox, creator of Deltarune, has given an update on the development status of the final three chapters of the game. Notably, Fox announced that Deltarune will be made available for purchase once the development of Chapter 4 has concluded.
The creation process of Chapter 5 is taking more time than initially expected. However, as announced by Fox, Chapter 3 is nearly finished, and a significant part of Chapter 4 is already done. The new plan is to release both Chapter 3 and 4 together.
This constitutes a departure from Fox's original intention of releasing Chapters 3, 4, and 5 simultaneously. This was mainly due to the distant completion timeline for Chapter 5 and the eagerness to release the chapters without excessive delays.
To hasten the development of Deltarune, a new producer has been hired. This move is expected to accelerate the game's development for future chapters. Deltarune Chapter 1 was initially released in 2018, followed by the surprise release of Chapter 2 during Undertale's sixth-anniversary celebration in 2021. Based on a 2020 reveal from Fox, the lengthy development of the RPG is partly due to the complexity of creating intricate new systems, plotlines, and graphics, which have proved to be more challenging than his previous project, Undertale.
