Remedy, the game developer, has shared some obstacles they encountered during the development of Alan Wake 2 for Xbox Series S. The company stated that although the Xbox Series S and Series X both share a CPU, their differences in GPU and memory have been causing issues, especially since the Series S version of the much-awaited Alan Wake 2 does not support the 60 fps performance mode, which will be available for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, releasing later this month.

Thomas Puha, Remedy's communications director, discussed these challenges, stating that scaling down memory for the Series S has been difficult. Subsequently, this has had an impact on the visuals and frame rate. However, they have been working diligently to ensure the game maintains high visual quality on the Series S.

Despite the concerns raised about the Xbox Series S, Microsoft continues to emphasize its importance in the gaming world. According to Phil Spencer, Xbox boss, having an affordable console like the Series S is beneficial to the industry. Therefore, Microsoft is unlikely to allow developers to release their games exclusively on the Xbox Series X.

The popularity of the Xbox Series S means that game developers will continue to face challenges when optimizing their games for this console. Matt Booty, Xbox Game Studios boss, admitted that developing games for Series S, along with the X, PS5, and PC, needs extra work. However, he believes these issues will subside once developers move onto their second games for these platforms.

As for Remedy and Alan Wake 2, it remains unclear whether the Xbox Series S will meet their specifications.
