In efforts to enhance the possibilities in mobile gaming, Qualcomm has revealed that its upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip for Android smartphones is strongly oriented towards gaming. The new chip features several innovative AI-enabled capabilities aimed to rival Google's Tensor processor, according to Taylor Lyles writing for IGN.
Qualcomm boasts that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will deliver gaming at up to 240 frames per second along with improved ray-tracing. The CPU is touted as 30% faster, and the GPU 25% faster than its predecessor. This development arrives as Apple also amplifies its focus on gaming with the iPhone 15 Pro line and its new A17 Pro processor.
Qualcomm's flagship processor comes loaded with numerous AI features meant to enhance user experience. These include a Video Object Eraser, which allows users to remove objects from videos, and Photo Expansion, which can enlarge the areas of a photograph.
While Qualcomm has yet to announce the first smartphone that will utilize the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, MSPowerUser has speculated that the Samsung Galaxy S24 series will be the inaugural user of the new processor.
These developments in the mobile tech world suggest a growing competition in the market around gaming capabilities and AI features, with firms such as Qualcomm, Google, and Apple all vying for innovation leadership in this field.
