2K has unveiled "Civilization: Eras & Allies," a new free-to-play mobile 4X social strategy game, formerly known as "Conquests and Alliances - 4X Empire Builder." The game, developed in collaboration with an external developer, has been in soft-launch testing in select countries. Despite concerns from the Civilization community, 2K made it clear that this new mobile project won't affect the development of the highly anticipated "Civilization 7" by Firaxis Games.
"Civilization: Eras & Allies" offers a journey through historical ages, letting players control empires and commanders from various eras. It features real-time strategy elements, governance, warfare, diplomacy, and time-limited game seasons that present unique rewards and challenges. The developers aim to tap into the mobile social strategy gaming market with innovative gameplay mechanics tailored for mobile experiences.
Firaxis Games, recognized for their work on "Civilization 6" and other titles such as "XCOM: Chimera Squad" and "Marvel's Midnight Suns," has confirmed that they are actively developing "Civilization 7." In preparation for the next entry in the Civilization series, Firaxis has undergone leadership changes and, unfortunately, experienced staff layoffs earlier in the year.
Will Civilization: Eras & Allies influence the development timeline for Civilization 7?nNo, Civilization: Eras & Allies is being developed by an external partner and will not impact the timeline for the development of Civilization 7, according to statements from 2K.
