Optimal Settings for Smooth Ray Tracing in Assassin's Creed Shadows

Mar 30, 2025 2:29 PM

The article examines the performance of Assassin's Creed Shadows on PC, particularly focusing on how well the game scales on various hardware configurations. It highlights the improvements of the Anvil Engine, especially the benefits of real-time global illumination (RTGI) for creating stunning visuals. The performance is broadly accessible, enabling mainstream GPUs to handle key graphical effects while also delivering solid frame rates. Although CPU spikes occur occasionally, particularly during map transitions, overall performance remains stable. However, there are several user experience issues, such as inconsistent cutscene frame rates and GPU scaling problems influenced by daylight changes. Despite some flaws, the game offers notable scalability, providing a good experience even on lower-end systems when using optimized settings.

What are the best settings for Assassin's Creed Shadows on PC?

To achieve optimal performance in Assassin's Creed Shadows, it is recommended to use settings based on the Series X performance mode while maintaining features like RTGI and strand-based hair. Utilizing features like dynamic resolution combined with DLSS can significantly enhance frame rates and ensure a smoother gameplay experience. Additionally, adjusting settings based on your GPU's VRAM capacity will help in maintaining quality without sacrificing performance.

Assassin's Creed Shadows is the latest installment in the popular Assassin's Creed franchise, known for its rich narratives and immersive open-world experiences. It introduces new gameplay mechanics and graphical advancements through the Anvil Engine, making it a noteworthy addition to the series. The title aims to push boundaries in both visual fidelity and gameplay while staying true to the franchise's roots.

Glad to see RTGI isn’t just a flex for high-end PCs this time—Shadows seems to nail that sweet spot between looking pretty and actually being playable. Still, those daylight GPU scaling quirks sound like they’d kill the vibe during a sunset sneak attack.

Nice to see Shadows balancing visual flair with solid performance, though those CPU spikes sound like they could use some ironing out. Props to Ubisoft for making RTGI work on mid-range rigs without melting them Cutscene frame rate jank is a bummer, but at least the game scales well—gotta love when devs remember not everyone’s rocking a 4090.
