PlayStation Plus subscribers will have an opportunity to try one of the most disappointing video games of 2022 for free in October. According to leaks from billbil-kun, a renowned figure for accurate game leaks, October's PlayStation Plus line-up will feature The Callisto Protocol and Farming Simulator 22.

The Callisto Protocol, which was developed as a spiritual successor to the popular Dead Space series, failed to meet sales targets post-release due to average reviews and failed to live up to the hype. The game was created by the original developers of Dead Space but wasn't as successful, causing layoffs in the developer studio, Striking Distance Studios, along with the departure of its founder and Dead Space creator, Glen Schofield.

Farming Simulator 22, however, performed well in terms of users, ironically surpassing Battlefield 2042's player numbers a couple of years prior. However, as it is a niche game, the appeal may not extend to all PlayStation Plus subscribers.

In addition to these two games, billbil-kun suggested one other unknown game should be available for PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers in October. However, the official announcement is yet to be made. Users can expect to access these games starting from October 3rd through to November 6th.

The leaked lineup, coupled with September's equally disappointing offerings like the "pretty ok" Saints Row reboot, Black Desert Traveler Edition, and Generation Zero, casts a shadow on the reputation of PlayStation Plus' subscription offerings. It raises questions on the trend of mediocre games appearing on subscription services a year after their original release.
