New footage shown from Star Citizen campaign Squadron 42

Oct 23, 2023 2:31 PM

During the recent CitizenCon event, Cloud Imperium Games unveiled new gameplay from Squadron 42, Star Citizen's single-player campaign. This reveal is particularly notable as it marks the first time since 2017 that footage from the campaign has been presented. According to developers, all promised features are now incorporated into the campaign, although a release date remains elusive. Star Citizen's creator, Chris Roberts, notes that the game is currently in the "polishing" process, which might take longer.

The unveiled showcase demonstrates improved campaign graphics compared to previous footage. Also visible are new gameplay opportunities, including a novel loot system. Star Citizen's development has spanned several years, with parts of the multiplayer being available for quite some time through Early Access. Funded by crowdfunding, Star Citizen has collected over $600 million to date. The single-player campaign, christened Squadron 42, was initially expected in 2014 but experienced multiple delays. A beta for Squadron 42 was slated for release in 2020 but never transpired.
