Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto has been in discussions about a live-action film adaptation of The Legend of Zelda for a decade. In an investor Q&A, Miyamoto acknowledged the high expectations from fans around the world and the considerable challenge in creating a film that meets those expectations. Collaborating with Avi Arad of Arad Productions, they aim to maintain the same meticulous development philosophy that contributed to the success of the Zelda video games.

Sony Pictures Entertainment is co-financing and handling theatrical distribution of the film. Wes Ball, known for directing The Maze Runner, is set to direct the Zelda movie. Derek Connolly, associated with the screenplay for Jurassic World, is reportedly writing the script.

Nintendo has previously found success with The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which grossed over $1 billion worldwide and became the highest grossing film based on a video game. Soon, The Super Mario Bros. Movie will also be available on Netflix.

There are currently no details on the story or casting for the upcoming Zelda movie. This news comes following Nintendo's official announcement of the movie project on November 7. Details about the film are expected to emerge as the project develops.
