Kamiya Wants Okami 2 and Viewtiful Joe 3 - Will Capcom Listen

Games industry veteran Hideki Kamiya has expressed his strong desire to create sequels for two PS2 classics, Okami and Viewtiful Joe. Despite being best known now for Bayonetta, Kamiya’s past works include these highly beloved titles. In a recent conversation with Ikumi Nakamura, who previously collaborated with him on Bayonetta, he elaborated on the unfulfilled narratives in both Okami and Viewtiful Joe. Okami, in particular, felt unfinished to him, and he now appeals to Capcom to allow him to continue the stories. While Okami recently appeared in a Capcom survey gauging interest in potential sequels, Viewtiful Joe did not.

Currently, there is no official confirmation from Capcom about sequels to Okami or Viewtiful Joe. However, both Hideki Kamiya and Ikumi Nakamura have expressed their enthusiasm and interest in working on these projects, suggesting a strong desire from the original creators to see these sequels come to life.

Okami, released in 2006, stands out as a Zelda-like RPG celebrated for its distinctive art style inspired by traditional Japanese ink painting. Despite its critical acclaim, it never received a sequel, leaving fans and creators alike yearning for more. Viewtiful Joe, another brainchild of Kamiya, known for its unique visual style and side-scrolling action, similarly left its story unfinished, with fans eagerly awaiting a third installment. The fact that both titles still resonate strongly with gamers underscores their lasting impact and the potential success of sequels.
