Initial Glimpse at Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater in Engine Receives Diverse Fan Responses

Oct 26, 2023 7:18 PM

The in-engine trailer for Konami's upcoming remake of Metal Gear Solid ?: Snake Eater has elicited mixed fan reaction since its look debuted during the Xbox Partner Preview event. Some fans commended the graphical upgrades and gameplay modernizations, while others felt that the visual style did not compare favorably to the original PS2 version or to contemporary games.

The trailer showed pre-alpha footage captured in Unreal Engine 5, featuring detailed representations of locations from the original game. David Hayter, whose dialogue from the 2004 installment will be used again in the remake, was among those impressed with the visual advancements.

However, some players criticized the character model re-imagining, the character animation, and the switch from the proprietary Fox Engine to Unreal Engine 5. Moreover, the recent release of the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 drew frustration for not including all titles in the Switch physical edition and running at only 720p on PC, despite previous 1080p advertisements.

Konami has assured plans for fixing the collection's issues in upcoming updates.
