Crash Bandicoot 5 Axed: Former Dev Warns Fans' Heartbreak

Jul 15, 2024 4:02 PM

It appears that the highly anticipated Crash Bandicoot 5 may never see the light of day. According to former Toys for Bob developer Nicholas Kole, who worked on Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, a Crash 5 was indeed in development but has since been cancelled, breaking the hearts of fans everywhere. Crash made a significant comeback in recent years with the N. Sane Trilogy in 2017 and the sequel Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time in 2020. However, despite continued interest, including a lukewarm reception for the live service game Crash Team Rumble, the future of the franchise remains uncertain.

Why was Crash Bandicoot 5 cancelled?n

The specific reasons behind the cancellation of Crash Bandicoot 5 have not been officially disclosed. However, given the varied reception of recent Crash titles and the general unpredictability of the game development landscape, it could be due to multiple factors such as budget constraints, shifting corporate priorities, or internal resource allocation.

Crash Bandicoot first appeared in the mid-90s, quickly becoming one of the most iconic characters in gaming. Developed originally by Naughty Dog, the franchise faced several ups and downs over decades. After years in relative obscurity, the character was revived magnificently with the N. Sane Trilogy, showcasing his enduring appeal. Toys for Bob’s sequel, Crash Bandicoot 4, further solidified his place in contemporary gaming culture. Sadly, despite these successes, the future of Crash remains in limbo.

Man, it’s a bummer to hear about Crash 5 getting axed—especially after Toys for Bob did such a stellar job with Crash 4. The unpredictability in game development really hits hard sometimes, but here’s hoping the orange marsupial finds a way back to our consoles soon
