Eric 'Concerned Ape' Barone, the creator of Stardew Valley, has released new glimpses into his upcoming game, the Haunted Chocolatier, after reaching one million followers on social media site X. These four new images showcase his unique pixel art style and several exciting game environments, including a forest with a recognizable red-clad character battling a monster, a peculiar yet cozy interior saloon, a library possessing a terrifying skeleton and mystifying books, and a close look at a town square with a mermaid fountain first seen in the reveal trailer back in 2021.
Haunted Chocolatier was first discussed by Barone in 2017 and officially announced in 2021. Unlike Stardew Valley, which is described as channeling the energy of the sun, Barone said that Haunted Chocolatier channels the energy of the moon. Despite these profound concepts, he emphasized his main objective: to create an enjoyable game.
The details of the Haunted Chocolatier remain largely mysterious. Last month, Barone shared an image on social media featuring an old man waking up from bed, leading many Stardew Valley fans to speculate that the game's Grandpa might be involved in the new game's plot.
Barone temporarily shelved the development of the Haunted Chocolatier to work on Stardew Valley's eagerly awaited 1.6 update, promising new features such as eight-player multiplayer on PC along with hats for cats and dogs. However, no release date has been announced yet.
