Capcom's first $70 game, "Dragon's Dogma 2," is setting a new pricing standard for their upcoming releases, joining other publishers in raising the retail price of AAA video games. Scheduled for release on March 26, 2024, the game's standard edition will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam at this increased price point, while the deluxe edition will be priced at $80.

This price increase reflects Capcom's observation about the current video game market economics, with Capcom president Haruhiro Tsujimoto highlighting at the Tokyo Game Show that game prices have not kept pace with the hundredfold increase in development costs from the Famicom era. Tsujimoto believes that despite potential economic downturns, high-quality games will continue to sell, drawing parallels to people's willingness to spend on movies and concerts despite a recession.

"Dragon's Dogma 2" joins a roster of games that have also adopted the $70 price tag, such as Nintendo's "The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom" and Microsoft's "Starfield." Other recent examples include "Forspoken," "Dead Island 2," "Hogwarts Legacy," and "Wild Heart." Gamers can look forward to the next chapter in the action role-playing series, as "Dragon's Dogma 2" promises to deliver an immersive gaming experience on next-gen platforms and PC.
