Yoshi-P Would Never Turn FF9 Into an Action Game

Jun 16, 2024 2:43 PM

Final Fantasy 9 remake rumors are gaining traction, but Naoki "Yoshi-P" Yoshida from Final Fantasy 14 has confirmed he is not involved in the project. Despite recent Final Fantasy 9-themed items added to the FF14 expansion Dawntrail, Yoshi-P stated that he has no knowledge about any remake. Fans speculated that Yoshi-P would change the game's combat to real-time action, but he assured that if he were to remake it, it would retain its turn-based combat style. Although there is no official announcement yet, Square Enix might reveal more details in the future. Meanwhile, the Dawntrail expansion for FF14 is set to launch on July 2 with promises of smoother server operations compared to Endwalker.

Is the Final Fantasy 9 remake confirmed?

No, as of now, there is no official confirmation of a Final Fantasy 9 remake. Square Enix has not made any announcements regarding the project.

Final Fantasy 9 originally released in 2000 on the PlayStation and is set in the fantasy world of Gaia. The game follows Zidane Tribal and his companions who rebel against the tyrannical Queen Brahne and unravel even greater threats. Known for its return to the series' medieval roots and a rich narrative, it has garnered a dedicated fanbase over the years. If a remake does happen, it will be interesting to see how Square Enix modernizes the classic while keeping its essence intact.

Man, the hype for a potential Final Fantasy 9 remake is real, but it's comforting to hear Yoshi-P would keep the turn-based combat if he was involved. Here's hoping Square Enix keeps the essence of the original while giving us something fresh to enjoy

It's exciting to see the buzz around a potential Final Fantasy 9 remake, even if it's all just speculation at this point. If Square Enix does decide to move forward with it, I hope they can update the visuals and mechanics while preserving the charm and turn-based combat that made the original so beloved.

The speculation around a Final Fantasy 9 remake is exciting, but Yoshi-P's confirmation that he's not involved adds an interesting twist. If Square Enix does decide to tackle this classic, it'll be fascinating to see how they balance the nostalgia factor with any modern updates.
