xbox showcase: gears of war and doom could hit ps5

Jun 06, 2024 5:39 PM

Excitement is building for this Sunday's Xbox Showcase, where two significant reveals are anticipated: a new installment of Doom, titled "Doom: The Dark Ages," and "Gears of War 6." According to Tom Warren's Notepad newsletter, "Doom: The Dark Ages" will be part of Project Latitude, launching simultaneously on PS5 in 2025. However, "Gears of War 6" will remain exclusive to Xbox and PC. This news comes at a time when Xbox is expanding its first-party titles to multiple platforms, a strategy recently applied to games like Grounded and Hi-Fi Rush. Speculation about a new Doom game had been fueled by leaked Microsoft documents and trademark filings, while the new Gears of War installment continues the momentum from its last release in 2019.

When will Doom: The Dark Ages be available on PS5?

Doom: The Dark Ages is slated for a simultaneous launch on PS5 in 2025 as part of Project Latitude, Microsoft's initiative to bring its titles to rival consoles.

Both Doom and Gears of War have storied histories in gaming. Doom, originated by id Software in 1993, revolutionized the FPS genre and has since become synonymous with intense, fast-paced action. The most recent Doom game, Doom Eternal, continued to push the boundaries with its visceral gameplay and narrative depth. Gears of War, developed by Epic Games and later The Coalition, debuted in 2006 and set a new standard for third-person shooters with its immersive story, gritty world, and innovative cover mechanics. Fans have eagerly awaited new updates for both franchises, making Sunday's showcase highly anticipated.
