Xbox Game Pass Users Face 12-Month Wait for Major Titles

Aug 20, 2024 10:38 PM

Microsoft has officially announced that Xbox Game Pass Standard subscribers will face a significant wait for some of the service's biggest titles, including anticipated releases like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Under the new tier structure set to roll out in the coming months, subscribers to Game Pass Standard will have to wait up to 12 months or longer for certain day-one releases. This change is a part of Microsoft’s latest offerings, which now provide players with multiple subscription options including Core, Standard, PC, and Ultimate tiers. While the Ultimate tier will continue to offer day-one games at no additional charge, Standard subscribers will need to manage their expectations and patience as they await these popular titles.

How long will Xbox Game Pass Standard subscribers have to wait for new game releases?

XBox Game Pass Standard subscribers may experience waits of 12 months or more before accessing new game releases, compared to Ultimate subscribers who will receive these titles on day one.

The announcement follows Microsoft’s recent strategy adjustments concerning Xbox Game Pass, which have included price increases. The Xbox Game Pass service launched in 2017, revolutionizing game access by allowing subscribers to play a vast library of titles for a monthly fee, and has since grown into a cornerstone of Xbox's gaming ecosystem. Understanding how the different tiers work is crucial for players looking to optimize their gaming experiences.

It’s a bit of a bummer for Game Pass Standard subscribers to see those long waits for new releases like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, especially when Ultimate members still get that sweet, instant access. But hey, at least it gives folks a chance to catch up on their backlog while they wait, right

That's a bold shift by Microsoft, and it really highlights how they're trying to balance the value between tiers. It looks like Ultimate subscribers will have a serious edge moving forward, so if you're a Standard player, it might be time to reassess your Game Pass strategy

It's a bummer to see Standard subscribers getting the short end of the stick on big titles like Call of Duty; patience will be the name of the game for them. Microsoft is clearly doubling down on their Ultimate tier, so it might be time for those who want day-one access to rethink their subscription strategy.
