Why is Disney's Dreamlight Valley Community Split on Early Access End

Oct 28, 2023 5:19 PM

Disney Dreamlight Valley, the popular cozy Disney life sim game from developer Gameloft, is stirring up mixed feelings in its community after announcing it would not be going free-to-play as previously planned.

The planned shift to free gameplay had been in place since the game's launch in early access last year. The community's reaction to this news is complex, with some players expressing upset, others rejoice, and some just seeking more clarity on future pay structures and update plans.

The game, due to exit early access on December 5, will increase in price from $30 to $40 for the base version, with more expensive versions offering further features. The developer also revealed plans for the game's first paid expansion.

Some existing players have welcomed the change, as they've already purchased the game and can continue playing as before. Yet, others aren’t as certain, expressing a range of concerns about the game's future. Many worries centered around the perceived imbalance between the game’s free-to-play and premium components.

Issues included apprehension over the game's microtransactions, its future content structure, and the overall direction of its storyline with the upcoming expansion pack, A Rift in Time.

Despite these concerns, the game still elicited positive reactions with characters like the new Gold Edition cosmetic reward capybara.

Overall, the community fears that Dreamlight Valley might fall in the worst of both gaming models, charging users for initial gameplay, followed by constant charges for major gameplay elements.
