Wesley Snipes Slams Marvel Over Blade Reboot Delays

Jun 17, 2024 11:40 AM

Wesley Snipes has cast some playful shade on the Marvel Blade reboot featuring Mahershala Ali, after news broke that director Yann Demange exited the project. Snipes took to Twitter to comment on the ongoing complications, highlighting that "daywalkers make it look easy." Despite challenges, Ali is still attached to play the iconic vampire slayer, but the movie's progress has been marred by several setbacks, including Demange's departure and a previous director stepping down due to scheduling conflicts. Production was further delayed by the writers' strike in May 2023. As of now, Blade is still scheduled for a November 7, 2025 release, but there's uncertainty given the search for a new director.

Why did director Yann Demange leave the Blade reboot project?

Director Yann Demange exited the Blade reboot due to unspecified reasons, marking the second director to do so after Bassam Tariq previously stepped down because of scheduling conflicts.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has planned for Blade’s reboot, starring Mahershala Ali, amid much anticipation. The original Blade, released in 1998 starring Wesley Snipes, is often credited with laying the groundwork for modern superhero movies. Snipes' portrayal of the character garnered a cult following, leading to two successful sequels. The process of rebooting this influential series has proven complex, with notable delays and changes in the creative team reflecting the high stakes and expectations surrounding this project.
