Walking Dead's Andrew Lincoln: Beloved Character's Death Too Much

Jul 03, 2024 1:06 PM

Andrew Lincoln, star of The Walking Dead, admitted that the brutal death of beloved character Glenn in the Season 7 premiere might have been excessive. Lincoln believes that the scene, where Glenn is killed by Negan with a barbed-wire wrapped baseball bat, was intensely gruesome even by the show's standards. Despite Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Negan) being a nice person off-camera, the filming left cast members emotional. Lincoln stars in the spin-off, The Ones Who Live, alongside Danai Gurira, which picks up post-original series. Another spin-off features Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon in post-apocalyptic France.

Why was Glenn's death in The Walking Dead so controversial?n

Glenn's death was controversial because it was exceedingly graphic and emotional. As a fan-favorite character, his demise with a barbed-wire bat in the Season 7 premiere shocked viewers and was seen by some as overly brutal, overshadowing even the violence typical of the show.

The Walking Dead is a popular post-apocalyptic TV series based on the comic book series of the same name. The show originally aired in 2010 and has spawned multiple spin-offs, continuing to expand its universe. The character of Glenn, portrayed by Steven Yeun, was central to the storyline for many seasons, making his violent end particularly impactful and memorable for fans.

Wow, Lincoln's take on Glenn's death really hits home, highlighting just how intense and emotionally charged that scene was, even for the cast. It's a testament to Jeffrey Dean Morgan's acting skills that he could evoke such strong reactions both on and off the screen

Andrew Lincoln nailed it—Glenn's death was a gut-punch that pushed the show's brutality to a whole new level. It was a significant moment, but maybe sometimes less is more when it comes to keeping viewers invested.

It’s interesting to see Andrew Lincoln’s reflection on Glenn's iconic but controversial death—a scene that definitely pushed the envelope on the show's already intense violence. Balancing such gruesome moments with storytelling depth is always tricky in shows like this.
