Ubisoft Set to Revive Rayman as AAA Adventure Game

May 21, 2025 8:16 PM

Ubisoft has officially launched a new AAA Rayman game following a successful "exploration phase." Initially revealed last October, the project has gained momentum as the company is now recruiting staff, including a 3D gameplay animator and a senior game designer, for the prestigious title. This renewed attention towards the Rayman franchise comes after a small team was put together to explore potential remakes. Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan, known for developing acclaimed titles like Rayman Legends and Mario + Rabbids, will be steering the project, bringing optimism to Rayman fans. However, concerns linger around the involvement of original creator Michel Ancel, who has faced controversy in the past.

What can we expect from the new Rayman game?

The new Rayman game is anticipated to deliver a fresh take on the beloved platformer series, leveraging modern technology and design while still retaining the charm that defined earlier titles like Rayman Legends and Origins.

Rayman, a franchise that began in the late 1990s, has a rich legacy in the platforming genre, celebrated for its innovative gameplay and vibrant art style. The Rayman series has seen multiple successful entries, including Rayman Legends, which was praised for its level design and cooperative gameplay. This upcoming return aims not only to revive the classic gameplay but also to introduce new mechanics that could appeal to both long-time fans and newcomers alike.

Stoked to see Rayman making a comeback with a AAA glow-up—Ubisoft Montpellier’s track record gives me hope, but I’m crossing my fingers they don’t overcomplicate the tight platforming that made the series so special. The art style alone could carry this, but fresh mechanics could either be a game-changer or a misstep.

Nice to see Ubisoft giving Rayman the AAA treatment—hopefully it captures that same magic as Legends without getting bogged down by modern open-world bloat. Though I do wonder if the team can nail that signature whimsical vibe without Ancel’s involvement.
