Third 'Dune' script nearly done, Villeneuve teases

In the latest update on the "Dune" film saga, director Denis Villeneuve has indicated that he is nearing completion of the script for a potential third movie. During a press conference in South Korea, he discussed the progression of the series, mentioning that the screenplay for "Dune: Messiah" is almost done, though unfinished. Villeneuve hinted at the possible continuation of Paul Atreides' story in this next installment, which would follow Frank Herbert's literary sequel. Despite the excitement around "Dune: Part Two," which is set to release in March 2024, Villeneuve is also considering taking a break before delving back into the dunes of Arrakis. He expressed an aspiration to potentially create a trilogy, which has been hinted at since his August 2023 interview with Empire magazine.

The upcoming "Dune: Part Two" is described by Villeneuve as an improvement over the first, offering more life and connection to the characters as well as delivering greater emotional intensity. The film features an all-star cast with returning actors such as Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, along with new additions like Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, and Christopher Walken. After a series of delays and rescheduling due to industry strikes, "Dune: Part Two" is anticipated to premiere earlier than expected, on March 1, 2024.
