The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR has just released a rousing, free update introducing an enticing Horde Mode, announced by Supermassive Games alongside a trailer and a PlayStation Blog post. This fast-paced survival test is perfectly timed for the scariest part of the year.

The PlayStation Blog publicized that a fresh challenge has been appended to Horde Mode where every blink increases the number of enemies. Previously, the eye-tracking technologies of PlayStation VR2 were experimented with by Supermassive, where specific foes slowly edge closer each time the player blinks. Much like similar games offering this arcade-style test, Horde Mode thrusts players into an area where the objective is to last as long as possible - the better you survive, the fiercer the enemies become.

The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR, an on-rails shooter that restricts body movement but allows for head navigation from a static position, adds significant replay value to the rather short game through this update. Although earlier this year, a review of the game criticized its brief playtime, weak narrative, and a scarcity of scares, preventing it from becoming the exclusive system-seller that PlayStation VR2 is still seeking.
