The Bait Ping is Back in League of Legends—With a Cute Emote

Aug 14, 2024 3:23 PM

League of Legends is spicing things up with the return of the beloved bait ping in the form of an adorable emote, thanks to an esports collaboration between Riot Games and top-tier teams. This emote titled Team BDS's Bait Da Sardines features a charming penguin holding a fishing rod and will be available for purchase alongside other team-themed emotes. The bait ping was originally removed from the game due to inappropriate use, as players misused it to target teammates negatively. Now, with the relaunch of this emote, there are concerns about how the community will respond, especially since it is linked to a revenue-sharing model with the esports teams involved. Players are left pondering the implications of this cheeky emote for in-game interaction.

Will the return of the bait ping emote lead to negative gameplay experiences in League of Legends?

With the history of the bait ping being misused, it's likely that the reintroduction of this emote may lead to similar situations. Players tend to find creative ways to misuse in-game features, and the vibrant and sometimes chaotic League of Legends community has a reputation for pushing boundaries.

League of Legends is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game developed by Riot Games, which has evolved since its release in 2009. The game is well-known for its competitive nature and diverse roster of champions. Emotes, like the newly relaunched bait ping, play a crucial role in player interaction and communication during matches, providing a lighthearted way to engage while also reflecting the evolving culture within the game's community.

It's always a gamble when a previously misused feature makes a return, and the bait ping emote's reintroduction could either foster fun moments or reignite toxicity in the League community. I guess it’s a classic case of you can lead a gamer to an adorable penguin, but you can’t make them use it responsibly

The return of the bait ping emote is a fun throwback, but it definitely skews towards risky territory. It’ll be interesting to see if players use it for innocent banter or if it quickly devolves into the same chaos that got it removed in the first place

It'll be interesting to see whether this adorable emote brings more fun or fuels negativity in the game—because we all know how creative League players can be with their in-game antics. With Riot’s history of trying to maintain a positive environment, they definitely have a tightrope to walk here
