A Starfield mod called "Slower Than Light - Fly in a Star System" allows players to experience actual space travel within the game. The mod was created by 105gun as a creative solution to the underwhelming in-game space travel, which comprised mostly of cutscenes transitioning to space/surface, or travelling between planets.

The newly introduced mod carries out two key tasks. Firstly, it enables players to control their spaceship's speed stages using hotkeys, and secondly, it makes it attainable to travel within a star system sans loading screen or cutscenes. This is made possible owing to the ship's ability to reach warp speed, allowing travel at hundreds of times the speed of light.

However, the mod currently only supports travelling to different planets within the same star system and does not yet provide the option to land on the planet surfaces unfortunately, a feature not present in Starfield. The creator of the mod, nevertheless, hopes to leverage Bethesda's upcoming release of the Creation Kit for better integration of the mod into the game.

Before choosing to download the mod, users are advised by 105gun to backup their save file due to the mod's interference with ship speeds and other game parameters. The mod consists of bugs and has a "crude" implementation, nevertheless, it is a notable new addition to the list of Starfield mods.

On another note, prior to installing any mod it is recommended for users to backup their save files considering the drastic changes some mods may bring into effect.
