Star Wars Outlaws Director Disappointed by Reviews, Promises Updates

Sep 05, 2024 11:17 AM

Star Wars Outlaws director Julian Gerighty expressed disappointment over the game’s recent review scores but remains optimistic about its potential. The game, which currently holds a 76/100 on Metacritic and received a 7/10 from IGN, has brought pride to the development team. Gerighty emphasized that although critical acclaim is important, player engagement is what truly matters. He noted that the game aims to provide a unique Star Wars experience and is committed to long-term improvements and post-launch support through a confirmed Season Pass. However, both the pricing model and game launch issues have drawn criticism from fans and have affected Ubisoft's stock performance.

What are the criticisms surrounding Star Wars Outlaws and its launch?

The criticisms mainly revolve around Ubisoft's pricing strategy, which charged up to $109.99 for early access, leaving standard players waiting longer. Additionally, technical issues affected some players' experiences, leading to the need for game restarts after updates. Furthermore, the decision to lock some content behind a Season Pass has not been well received by the community.

Star Wars Outlaws marks the first open-world entry in the Star Wars gaming universe, allowing players to explore the vast galaxy like never before. Set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, players step into the shoes of Kay Vess, a scoundrel looking to make her mark. The game aims to blend narrative-driven gameplay with expansive exploration, making it a significant addition to the franchise's gaming legacy.

It’s always tough to see a game fall short of expectations despite the hard work that goes into it, but it’s great to hear that Julian Gerighty and his team are still committed to making Star Wars Outlaws something special for players. Ultimately, it’s all about how the community responds and engages with the game in the long run, so fingers crossed they turn things around

It's a bummer to see Star Wars Outlaws facing some backlash right out of the gate, especially when it’s aiming to carve out a new niche in such a beloved universe. However, I'm all for the team focusing on player engagement and long-term support; that’s what can really turn a game around in the long run
