Star Wars Director Teases Live-Action KOTOR with New Character

Jun 06, 2024 10:06 PM

Leslye Headland, showrunner of "The Acolyte," recently expressed interest in adapting "Knights of the Old Republic" (KOTOR) into a live-action series, focusing on the character Kreia. KOTOR, a beloved Star Wars game set thousands of years before the original movies, explores the conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire. Kreia, a complex and blind Force-sensitive character from KOTOR 2, forms a bond with the protagonist and questions the traditional divide between the light and dark sides of the Force. Headland believes Kreia's story would be compelling in a live-action format. Despite Disney's limited use of the KOTOR era, the series remains popular through its MMO and other adaptations. Meanwhile, "The Acolyte" continues to explore an earlier Star Wars era, just before "A New Hope," with mixed reviews. The next episode is slated for release on Tuesday.

Who is Kreia in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic?

Kreia is a significant character in "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords." She is a blind Force-sensitive mentor to the protagonist, who rejects the binary view of light and dark sides of the Force, offering a more nuanced perspective on the Star Wars universe.

"Knights of the Old Republic," first released in 2003, is widely regarded as one of the greatest RPGs of all time. It introduced players to a richly detailed period in Star Wars history, allowing them to make choices that influenced the outcome of the story significantly. The game has inspired numerous other works, including comics and an ongoing MMO, making it a cornerstone in the expanded Star Wars universe.
