Sony has revealed two new smaller PlayStation 5 models. The standout feature of these consoles is a removable disk drive.

PS5 users now have the option to purchase a console with a disk drive for €549.99 or without for €449.99. A stand-alone disk drive, for those who wish to add one to the digital model later, would cost €119.99 in Europe.

The new models come equipped with a 1 terabyte SSD, an upgrade from the previous model's 825 gigabytes. They also include a stand to position the consoles horizontally. However, if consumers prefer to place their console vertically, a separate stand can be purchased for €29.99.

In terms of design changes, these latest models feature four interchangeable panels, with two glossy ones on top and two matte ones at the bottom. Sony claims the new models are about 30% smaller and between 18-24% lighter than the original PS5 consoles.

Despite the physical changes, there are no alterations in the technical specifications. These newer models will replace the current PS5 consoles and are expected to hit the market in November. However, an exact release date has not been confirmed. Sony plans to continue selling the older PS5 as long as the supply lasts.

In reaction to the news, some consumers have shown mixed feelings. Certain comments highlight a lack of need for the new models, with some even criticizing the added cost of the vertical stand.
