Sony promises the full $39.99 Concord experience

Jun 06, 2024 2:51 PM

Sony has revealed that their upcoming live service hero shooter, Concord, will be priced at $39.99 for both physical and digital standard editions. This price point ensures that players receive the full experience, including access to all 16 playable characters, 12 maps, and six team-based modes. The game will also feature regular post-launch updates at no additional cost. The pricier Digital Deluxe Edition offers early access to the game, up to 72 hours before its global release on August 23. A pre-launch beta will take place for PlayStation 5 and PC, with cross-play support.

Why is Concord not launching as a free-to-play game?

Despite initial speculation, Concord won't be free-to-play to provide a complete multiplayer-focused experience right from the start, ensuring engaging gameplay, rewarding progression, and a robust roster of characters, maps, and game modes.

Concord is being developed by Firewalk Studios and is anticipated to use a launch strategy similar to Helldivers 2, which succeeded with simultaneous PS5 and PC releases at a lower price point. This approach may signal Sony's broader strategy for future live service games. In contrast, Sony maintains its stance on releasing single-player games on consoles first before they arrive on PC.
