Despite the initial excitement from the community, the modders' disinterest in Starfield's gameplay led to their decision to cancel the project. The team expressed their dissatisfaction with the game, criticizing it for not living up to Bethesda's reputation for crafting vibrant, explorative worlds. Nonetheless, Starfield has achieved remarkable success, becoming Bethesda's biggest launch and garnering over 10 million players within the first three weeks of its release. Phil Spencer has noted that Starfield remains in the top 10 most-played games from Xbox Studios. In light of their decision, the Skyrim Together team has offered their code for the mod as open source, giving other developers the opportunity to pick up where they left off if there is interest in continuing the development of a multiplayer experience for Starfield.
Why did the Skyrim Together modders cancel the development of Starfield Together? The modding team decided to cancel the Starfield Together mod because they felt the game was lackluster, particularly criticizing it for lacking the lively, handcrafted world that is typical in Bethesda games. They did not want to invest their time and effort into a game they found mediocre.
