Skull and Bones Season One Sets Sail

Feb 28, 2024 3:14 PM

The first season of the recently released pirate game Skull and Bones, titled "Raging Tides," has officially set sail. In this season, players face off against the formidable Plague King, Philippe La Peste, and his Pestilence fleet. Defeating his Plaguebringers boosts the enemy level of Philippe's ship, leading up to a direct confrontation with the Plague King himself. Triumphing over him unlocks a "rare item." Additionally, the season introduces two elite Kingpin Bounties, three unique contracts, and a battle pass known as the Smugglers Pass, featuring free and paid tiers to unlock various cosmetic items for both captain and ship, including a new ship, weapons, and furniture blueprints.

Skull and Bones, available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, offers players the chance to navigate the seas as pirates with the aim of building a formidable ship and a dreaded reputation. Ubisoft reports significant player engagement, with averages of four hours of playtime per day. Though sales figures are not disclosed, reports suggest less than one million players. A review by Lars Cornelis, who rated the game a 4, commented that while ship customization and sea battles are decent, the game lacks overall substance.

What is the Smugglers Pass in Skull and Bones?

The Smugglers Pass in Skull and Bones is a battle pass system that includes both free and paid tiers, offering players a variety of cosmetic rewards such as a new ship, weapons, and blueprints for furniture to customize their gameplay experience.

Skull and Bones, developed by Ubisoft, is part of the open-world action-adventure genre, and has been highly anticipated due to its naval warfare and exploration elements. Initially announced at E3 2017, the game focuses on the Golden Age of Piracy where players can sail solo or with others to explore the Indian Ocean, engage in naval combat, and search for treasure.

It's a neat way to keep players engaged and invested in the game, especially with the free and paid tiers offering a range of cosmetic items for ships and captains.
