Saber Bans Space Marine 2 Mods from Online Play for All Users

Nov 22, 2024 9:47 AM

Saber Interactive has announced that mods for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 will be banned from public online sessions starting in December due to server stability issues linked to mods. While the developer encourages modding and aims to maintain a mod-friendly environment, the need for stability and a smooth experience for all players has taken precedence. This policy change was shared by game director Dmitriy Grigorenko through a Steam post. Players can still enjoy mods in private lobbies, and future updates will ease the modding process, ensuring modders won't face complications after patches.

What are the reasons for mod bans in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2?

The ban on mods in public online sessions is primarily due to technical issues affecting server stability, which also impacts players not using mods. Corrupt save file reports have also played a role in this decision, prompting developers to prioritize a stable gaming environment for all players.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is a third-person shooter set in the Warhammer 40k universe, where players embody a Space Marine battling against various foes. The game emphasizes both solo and multiplayer experiences, offering fans a chance to immerse themselves in one of the most iconic sci-fi franchises. Released as a sequel to the popular original, it has garnered attention for its action-packed gameplay and detailed world-building. Modding has been part of the community's engagement, but the developers remain vigilant about maintaining the integrity of the online experience.

It’s a bummer to see mods getting banned from public sessions, but I get it—server stability is key for a smooth online experience. Hopefully, with the future updates they mentioned, modders will still have plenty of ways to creatively engage with the game without breaking things for everyone else
