ROLL20 Teams Up With Discord for Seamless Tabletop Gaming

Apr 24, 2024 3:57 PM

Gamers and tabletop enthusiasts looking forward to integrating their Discord and Roll20 experiences have something exciting to look forward to. Roll20, the well-known virtual tabletop application, is set to merge with Discord, making online D&D sessions more convenient by allowing players to access all of Roll20's features directly within Discord. Players will simply need to join a voice call on Discord and select Roll20 to start their game, ensuring a more streamlined gaming experience. The integration requires using the same email for both platforms for seamless login, or otherwise logging in manually. The game master must initiate the session, and all participants need to be on the same voice call and have a Roll20 account. Although the integration won't support mobile devices, users can still access Roll20 through the browser. Pro subscribers of Roll20 will have exclusive beta access starting April 30, with a general release planned for later in the year.

How do I integrate Roll20 with Discord for my online D&D games?

To integrate Roll20 with Discord, join a Discord voice call, click on the activities option, and select Roll20 from the list. You'll need to use the same email for both Discord and Roll20 for a seamless sign-in experience, and everyone on the voice call will need a Roll20 account. If your emails differ, a manual login to Roll20 is required. The game master should start the session, and the feature is currently available on the browser and desktop app versions of Discord, with a beta for Roll20 Pro subscribers beginning April 30.

Additional Background:nRoll20 is an online platform that allows players to create and play tabletop role-playing games including Dungeons & Dragons. Since its inception in 2012, it has become a favorite tool among the TTRPG community for its versatility and support for various game systems. Discord is a communication platform popular within the gaming community for its voice, video, and text communication channels. The integration of Roll20 into Discord represents a significant shift towards a unified gaming experience, capitalizing on the popularity of both platforms within the role-playing game sphere, and enhancing the convenience for players who are now accustomed to virtual gaming environments.
