Rise of the Ronin Team Responds to Horrible Optimization Backlash

Apr 05, 2025 4:32 PM

Team Ninja has issued a public apology regarding the subpar optimization of their latest title, Rise of the Ronin, after players expressed significant frustration over its performance on Steam. Released on March 11, 2025, the game has garnered mixed reviews, with only 57% of over 3,100 players rating it positively. Critics highlight major issues such as enemies failing to load during boss fights, missing NPCs, and glitchy environments. In response, Team Ninja is set to release a patch on April 10 that aims to address these problems, acknowledging that "nobody should be paying for a port in a state like this." Many players have voiced their disappointment, with some stating that they love the game's concept but cannot recommend it due to its technical flaws.

What are the major issues affecting Rise of the Ronin?

The primary issues with Rise of the Ronin include poor performance, missing assets, glitches during gameplay, and overall suboptimal optimization that detracts from the gaming experience.

Rise of the Ronin is an action RPG set in a historical context, blending open-world exploration reminiscent of Assassin's Creed with Team Ninja's hardcore combat mechanics. Despite its engaging gameplay, the technical shortcomings in this Steam port have overshadowed its potential, leading to widespread discontent among gamers. The team's commitment to rectifying these issues comes as they aim to regain player trust ahead of future updates.

It’s wild how a game with such solid combat can get overshadowed by technical jank—here’s hoping the patch brings the polish it deserves. Team Ninja’s transparency is refreshing, but players shouldn’t have to play fix-it crew after launch.

Oof, another rough PC port—hopefully Team Ninja’s patch can turn things around because the combat looks too fun to be held back by tech issues. At least they’re owning up to it, unlike some studios that stay radio silent. Love the concept, but it’s 2025—players shouldn’t have to beta-test a full-priced game post-launch. Fingers crossed the April update delivers.
