Rise of the Ronin, developed by Team Ninja and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, is notably surpassing the sales of its predecessors Nioh and Nioh 2. This comes as a surprising development given the game's softer impact on the gaming community compared to the successes of the Nioh series. Despite releasing on the limited PS5 install base and facing competition from Dragon’s Dogma 2's release, Rise of the Ronin’s initial sales numbers have exceeded expectations, according to Koei Tecmo's latest earnings report.

The game, a co-development project between Koei Tecmo and Sony, was favorably received for its technological advancements over the Nioh series but faced criticism for its approach to open-world design and its combat system, which failed to resonate as strongly with Nioh fans.
