"Revenant Hill by Night in the Woods creators cancelled"

Nov 08, 2023 3:08 PM

The previously announced game 'Revenant Hill', developed by the creators behind the indie title 'Night in the Woods', has been cancelled. The cancellation comes as a result of two key developers leaving due to serious health issues. The game, revealed in May, was being developed by Bethany Hockenberry and Scott Benson at their new studio, The Glory Society.

The team at The Glory Society announced on social media that they would be stopping development on 'Revenant Hill'. They mentioned that creating something complex comes with challenges which normally require time and a good team working together. Unfortunately, the health problems of two central team members meant they had to step back from the project indefinitely.

'Revenant Hill' featured a cat protagonist named Twigs, reminiscent of Mae from 'Night in the Woods'. Unlike 'Night in the Woods', which was set in a world of animals, 'Revenant Hill' took place in the year 1919 and included humans as well. 'Night in the Woods' had also been worked on by Alec Holowka, who passed away in 2019.

It appears that the current team has disbanded for the time being, though there is hope that they will be able to reconvene in the future to reflect on their shared experiences and what they learned during the development process.
