Red Dead Redemption 2 Coming to Switch 2, Says Take-Two CEO

May 16, 2025 2:00 PM

Red Dead Redemption 2 is reportedly on track to release for Nintendo's upcoming Switch 2, with sources indicating a potential launch later this year. Take-Two's CEO, Strauss Zelnick, expressed optimism regarding Nintendo's new console during a recent financial briefing, mentioning four titles expected on the platform. These include Borderlands 4, Sid Meier's Civilization 7, and popular sports games from 2K. While discussing their approach to titles for Switch 2, Zelnick emphasized that each game would be evaluated individually, and not all titles would suit the platform. This aligns with ongoing speculation about other Rockstar titles potentially making their way to the console, including a modern port of GTA 4.

When is Red Dead Redemption 2 coming to Switch 2?

While an official release date has not been announced, reports suggest a launch is possible later this year.

Red Dead Redemption 2, developed by Rockstar Games, is an acclaimed action-adventure title set in a vast open world. Released originally in 2018, it has garnered numerous awards for its storytelling, graphics, and gameplay mechanics. The game is set in a fictional version of the American Wild West and follows Arthur Morgan, a member of the Van der Linde gang as they navigate challenges in a rapidly changing world. Its arrival on the new Nintendo console could attract a new audience and provide players an opportunity to experience the critically acclaimed title on a portable platform.

RDR2 on a handheld sounds like a dream, but I’m curious if Arthur’s beard will still render in all its glory on the Switch 2’s hardware. Take-Two’s bringing the heat with that lineup—Borderlands 4 and Civ 7 on the go My productivity is already in shambles just thinking about it.

RDR2 on Switch 2 would be a game-changer for portable gaming—imagine those sunsets on the go Though I wonder how Rockstar will handle the hardware gap without sacrificing too much of that iconic detail. Take-Two’s lineup for Switch 2 sounds solid, but I’m low-key more excited about the possibility of GTA IV finally getting some love. That game’s physics would feel right at home on a handheld.
