PRINCE OF PERSIA ROGUE LAUNCHES ON STEAM

Apr 10, 2024 6:36 PM

Ubisoft and Evil Empire are gearing up to release a new twist on a classic with "The Rogue Prince of Persia," a 2D action-platformer with rogue-lite mechanics, set to launch in Steam Early Access on May 14. The game takes place in a fantastical version of ancient Ctesiphon, now under siege by dark forces led by the Hun chief, Nogai. Players step into the shoes of the Prince, empowered by a mystical bola granting resurrection upon death, and will navigate procedurally generated levels across various biomes, like aqueducts and academies, all inspired by Persian architecture.

The combat system in "The Rogue Prince of Persia" enables players to choose from a wide range of weapons and secondary items such as twin daggers, spears, broad swords, axes, shields, bows, grappling hooks, and more. To complement the action, a dynamic soundtrack produced by ASADI, a Persian-American electronic music artist, fuses traditional and modern music. Evil Empire's collaboration with Ubisoft aims to bring community feedback during the Early Access phase to refine gameplay and introduce new features like levels, bosses, weapons, enemies, and upgrades. Fans of the rogue-lite genre and the storied Prince of Persia franchise can anticipate a fresh take on the series with this upcoming title.

What can players expect from "The Rogue Prince of Persia" in terms of gameplay mechanics and variety?

Players can expect a unique blend of traditional "Prince of Persia" platforming with rogue-lite elements where each death is a new opportunity to explore diverse biomes, master various weapons, and utilize a mix of acrobatic skills. The procedurally generated levels mean each run offers a new challenge. Players can tailor their gameplay style through a sizable selection of weapons and secondary items, ensuring a fresh and engaging experience with every attempt to save Ctesiphon.

The Prince of Persia series has a long history, starting with the original game in 1989 which set a benchmark for cinematic platforming. The series has undergone several revamps and stylistic changes, with the "Sands of Time" trilogy being one of the most well-received for its innovative narrative and gameplay. Ubisoft's most recent ventures prior to "The Rogue Prince of Persia" aimed at reimagining the franchise include the 2008 title, "Prince of Persia," with a focus on acrobatic maneuvers and an illustrative art style, and "Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands" that tied into the series' lore while coinciding with the release of the movie adaptation. "The Rogue Prince of Persia" appears to take inspiration from the franchise's rich history while offering a new rogue-like twist to fans and new players alike.
