Persona 3 Reload Producer: Female Protagonist is Unlikely

Aug 15, 2024 11:12 AM

Persona 3 Reload, the recent remake of the classic RPG, will likely not feature the beloved female protagonist, Kotone Shiomi, as confirmed by series producer Kazuhisa Wada. Despite fan demands for her inclusion, Wada explained that the development challenges and financial constraints make it improbable for this addition to occur. He expressed his regret towards fans hoping to see Shiomi in the game, emphasizing that while the interest is high following the release, the opportunity to add her character is past.

The remake is the fourth version of Persona 3 since its original launch in 2006, but it does not incorporate content from previous versions, including the female protagonist found in Persona 3 Portable. This decision has frustrated fans as the concept of "complete experience" has been called into question with additional paid content, further complicating the game's value proposition. Following its release, Atlus announced an expansion pass, which fans feel hasn't fulfilled their expectations for a complete remaster.

Will there be a female protagonist in Persona 3 Reload?

No, the producer has stated that it is unlikely that the female protagonist will be included in future updates or expansions.

Persona 3 originally debuted in 2006 and has been re-released multiple times over the years, with each version adding new features and content. The 2007 enhanced edition, Persona 3 FES, expanded the story, while Persona 3 Portable allowed players to choose Kotone Shiomi as the female lead, a feature many fans hoped would return in Reload. Deviating from this model has led to widespread discussions in the gaming community regarding Atlus's strategy on game releases and content distribution.
