PAYDAY 3 to Feature Offline Mode

Feb 19, 2024 10:42 AM

Starbreeze Studios has announced an upcoming offline mode for Payday 3 as part of its 'Operation Medic Bag' initiative, aiming to address feedback and improve the game's experience. Despite the undisclosed release date, the offline mode is set to roll out in two phases; initially allowing solo players to bypass matchmaking (though still requiring internet to track progress), evolving towards a fully offline playable state with periodic online check-ins for progress upload. Meanwhile, matchmaking systems and user interface are slated for major revisions. Even as three paid expansions and a free heist are scheduled for this year, the shift towards Unreal Engine 5 has been postponed to focus on enhancements. Starbreeze recognizes the game's sale and player activity as disappointingly low, emphasizing their commitment to improvement in partnership with publisher Plaion. They believe in turning problematic releases into success stories by heeding player criticism, continuing game support, and maintaining transparent communication with shareholders. This strategy forms the core of their approach to revitalizing Payday 3.

When can players expect the Payday 3 offline mode to be fully implemented?

While there is currently no specific release date, the full offline mode for Payday 3 is expected to be introduced gradually, starting with the ability to skip matchmaking for solo play. The final stage will allow the game to be played entirely offline, aside from occasional online check-ins needed to update player progression.

Payday 3 is a first-person shooter that focuses on cooperative heist gameplay. It is the successor to Payday 2 and continues the series' tradition of providing intense, strategic heist missions that players can execute with friends or AI-controlled teammates. The addition of an offline mode is particularly significant as it increases accessibility and convenience for players preferring to play without an internet connection, further expanding the appeal of the game to a wider audience.
