In the gaming world, there's major news! Cyberpunk 2077, an action role-playing video game, has smashed records with a whopping 25 million units sold, outdoing the sales of the popular game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. This announcement comes directly from Adam Kici?ski, the CEO of CD Projekt Red, the company behind both games.

Despite a turbulent start that even saw Cyberpunk 2077 briefly removed from the PlayStation Store, it proved resilient, reaching this sales milestone around two years and ten months after its release. In comparison, The Witcher 3 didn't hit the same mark until almost four years and seven months post-launch.

Another noteworthy success of Cyberpunk 2077 is the Phantom Liberty expansion, which sold three million units in just its first week. The majority of these sales (68%) were made on PCs, while 20% were by PlayStation 5 users, and 13% on Xbox Series X and S. The development and marketing of this expansion cost an estimated total of around $84.3 million.

Released on September 26, this update totally transformed the game, introducing a new perks system, refining the AI, and even putting an end to a circulating fan theory about Elon Musk.

However, in a surprise plot twist, the game also allows players to completely ignore the new update if they choose, by selecting particular dialogue options, blocking out the new missions.

The impressive turnaround of Cyberpunk 2077's fortunes, which started with the anime spin-off, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and the 2.0 Update, has earned the game high praise. This triumph just goes to show you can turn any situation around with enough innovation and determination!
