Oblivion Remastered PC: Stunning Upgrade, But Performance Woes

Apr 26, 2025 2:06 PM

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered aims to breathe new life into the classic 2006 RPG by utilizing a modified Unreal Engine 5, but it has faced significant performance issues. While the remaster boasts impressive enhancements in graphics and gameplay changes, including modernized visuals and effects like Nanite and Lumen, it suffers from severe stuttering and inconsistent performance even on high-end hardware. Such technical shortcomings echo similar deficiencies from the original game, prompting concerns over the viability of its launch on PC and consoles. Players are advised to adjust settings for optimal performance but will ultimately experience noticeable performance flaws that overshadow the aesthetic improvements.

What are the performance issues in Oblivion Remastered?

Oblivion Remastered has been criticized for severe stuttering and inconsistent performance, regardless of the hardware used. Even powerful CPUs struggle with the game, leading to a frustrating experience for players who may encounter significant frame drops and hitching during gameplay.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion originally launched in 2006 and became a defining title in the RPG genre, praised for its expansive world and intricate storytelling. Despite its age, it maintained a dedicated fanbase, eager for a modern remaster. The game was groundbreaking for its use of open-world design and graphics that pushed the limits of contemporary gaming hardware, but fans are now questioning whether those elements have translated effectively into the remastered version.

Classic Bethesda—delivering stunning visuals with a side of performance woes, like serving a gourmet meal on a wobbly table. Here’s hoping they smooth things out before fans start modding the fixes themselves.

Ah, Oblivion Remastered—bringing back the nostalgia while somehow keeping the jank alive, huh Hopefully, they can patch it up before launch, because stuttering in 2024 feels like a weird throwback we didn’t ask for. UE5 upgrades are cool and all, but if the game runs like it’s still on an Xbox 360, maybe they should’ve spent more time optimizing than just making the grass look prettier.
