Nintendo 3DS StreetPass 'Beaten' After 13 Years

Jul 03, 2024 4:10 PM

A dedicated community of Nintendo 3DS StreetPass fans has finally completed all puzzles in Puzzle Swap after 13 years. The final piece, a rare airplane-themed puzzle only available at select Japanese airports, was discovered by a stranger who shared it with the community. This marks the first time all 63 Puzzle Swap puzzles have been assembled in one place. The achievement is a significant milestone in game preservation and has led to discussions on creating custom puzzles and further modding.

How did the community find the missing airplane-themed puzzle in Puzzle Swap?

The community found the final puzzle when a stranger, who had originally obtained it at a Japanese airport, sent it to the community leader. They shared a friend code and a zip file, which allowed the community to decrypt and disseminate the puzzle.

StreetPass Mii Plaza for the Nintendo 3DS enabled players to collect and trade puzzle pieces via SpotPass and StreetPass features. Since its debut with the 3DS in 2011, it provided various mini-games, including Puzzle Swap, which involves collecting pieces of various themed puzzles. Over the years, some puzzles became extremely rare, making the hunt for the final pieces a community-driven challenge.
