Next Battlefield Goes Modern, Scraps Specialists—Early Play Possible

Sep 17, 2024 12:04 PM

EA has officially confirmed details about the upcoming Battlefield game set for release in 2025, returning to its modern-day roots while discarding the Specialist characters introduced in Battlefield 2042. The game is heavily inspired by Battlefield 3 and 4, according to Vince Zampella, who's leading the franchise after a restructuring. EA shared concept art depicting combat scenarios and wildfires in a European city. The focus will be on creating a game that resonates with long-time fans by featuring traditionally established player counts and map sizes, while also incorporating community feedback early in development. While not officially confirming a free-to-play mode, Zampella hinted at expanding the Battlefield experience to include varied gameplay options within the franchise.

When is the next Battlefield game coming out?

The next Battlefield game is expected to release sometime in 2025, with early access opportunities for players possibly available as early as next year.

Battlefield is a renowned series of first-person shooter games known for its massive multiplayer battles and tactical gameplay. The franchise saw its peak with Battlefield 3 and 4, which are still fondly remembered by players today. The latest installment, Battlefield 2042, faced criticism for its launch issues, which has prompted EA and DICE to re-evaluate their approach for the next game, aiming to recapture the essence of what made earlier entries popular.

It’s exciting to see EA pivot back to the classic Battlefield vibe, especially with the focus on community feedback—now that's a much-needed approach I think fans will appreciate the nod to the beloved gameplay mechanics of 3 and 4, and it could really breathe new life into the franchise.
