Feb 06, 2024 4:25 PM

CD Projekt Red is ramping up development on the sequel to the action-RPG hit Cyberpunk 2077, codenamed Project Orion, by enlisting new top-notch talent from across the gaming industry. With high expectations set by the original's immersive narrative expansion — Phantom Liberty — the addition of high-profile developers including lead writer Anna Megill from Control and Fable, and contributing writer Alexander Freed from Star Wars: The Old Republic, fans are keen to see how the Cyberpunk franchise will evolve in its next installment.

Alongside the writers, new executive producer Dan Hernberg and design director Ryan Barnard have joined the project, bringing a wealth of experience from their time at Blizzard and Amazon Games, and IO Interactive and Ubisoft respectively. Engineering director Alan Villani also joins the fold, with a technical background from Warner Bros. Games' Mortal Kombat series.

The newly assembled team, paired with the talented developers who are continuing their work from Cyberpunk 2077, signals CD Projekt Red's commitment to pushing the boundaries of storytelling and gameplay in the Cyberpunk universe.

Who are the notable new team members developing the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel?

Notable new team members include Anna Megill as the lead writer, who worked on Control and the upcoming Fable reboot, Alexander Freed for writing contributions with experience from Star Wars: The Old Republic, executive producer Dan Hernberg from Blizzard and Amazon Games, design director Ryan Barnard from IO Interactive and Ubisoft, and engineering director Alan Villani, who contributed to the Mortal Kombat series.

Additional Background: Cyberpunk 2077 is a first-person action RPG developed by CD Projekt Red, set in a dystopian future. Despite its rough launch in December 2020, the game has since been patched significantly, and the expansion Phantom Liberty is praised by many. Interest in the sequel, Project Orion, is high not only because of the original game's eventual redemption but also due to the newfound trust in the developer to deliver on the promise of an ambitious and engaging futuristic gaming experience.
