Multiversus relaunching next week with Jason and Agent Smith

May 20, 2024 3:10 PM

MultiVersus is making a big comeback next week on May 28, bringing with it a host of new characters and features. Players can expect the addition of Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th, Agent Smith from The Matrix, and the Banana Guard from Adventure Time. The launch trailer, released by Player First Games, showcases various characters including Finn, Velma, Bugs Bunny, The Joker, and Marvin the Martian, ending with a dramatic scene at the Iron Throne from Game of Thrones. There's also good news for fans of PvE as the game introduces a new mode called Rifts, offering unique combat encounters similar to Super Smash Bros.' Classic Mode. Jason Voorhees' inclusion is notable, marking his first major appearance since a lawsuit over the Friday the 13th series was resolved in 2021.

Why was Jason Voorhees absent from games for so long?

Jason Voorhees was absent from games due to a legal battle over the rights to the Friday the 13th franchise, which was only settled in 2021. This resulted in limited appearances for the character in other media.

MultiVersus brings together an eclectic mix of characters from various franchises, creating a unique fighting game experience. Previously, the game faced controversy and a lengthy offline period, but it's now back with significant updates. Mark Hamill will voice The Joker, and the game will utilize Unreal Engine 5, promising a polished relaunch. With characters from different universes colliding, MultiVersus continues to expand its roster and gameplay modes, making it a much-anticipated event for fans of crossover fighting games.
