Mortal Kombat 1's Ed Boon: Next Game Planned 3 Years Ago

Ed Boon, co-creator of Mortal Kombat and director of NetherRealm, confirmed that the studio chose its next game three years ago, although it has been actively developing Mortal Kombat 1 since its release. Currently, NetherRealm is focusing on the recently launched Khaos Rising expansion and the Kombat Pack 2, which adds fan-favorite characters like Cyrax and Sektor, as well as guest characters including Ghostface and T-1000. Mortal Kombat 1 has achieved significant success with over four million copies sold, raising questions among fans about the next installment in the Injustice series.

While NetherRealm has not officially announced Injustice 3, Ed Boon mentioned that the door is not closed on returning to the Injustice franchise. However, the focus remains on supporting Mortal Kombat 1 at this time.
