On October 18, 2023, IGN highlighted issues experienced by users of the PC version of Mortal Kombat 1 (MK1), with particular focus on the game's crashes devouring hard drive space. A point of concern was that for each crash, NetherRealm's latest fighting game automatically generates a 1GB report file detailing the crash. These files were found to consume significant storage space, with one user reporting an additional 41.6GB occupied by crash report files.

Twitter user @X-Azeez revealed the issue through posted screenshots showing the effect of the crashes on hard drive space. Cory Taylor, the community manager for Warner Bros. Games, NetherRealm Studios' parent company, responded on the platform, assuring that the team had been notified of the problem and were investigating it urgently.

The base file size of MK1 on PC is already a substantial 100GB, but recurrent crashes can inflate this figure exponentially. This is just one of several issues the game has experienced since its launch the previous month. Despite these setbacks, MK1 continues to excite fans with new features, such as the forthcoming addition of Omni-Man, the first DLC playable character, and other characters such as Homelander, Peacemaker, and the returning Quan-Chi as part of the first Kombat Pack.n
