Microsoft's Strange Final Fantasy 14 Xbox Series X Lookalike Giveaway

Mar 15, 2024 1:25 PM

Microsoft has taken the wraps off a unique Final Fantasy XIV-themed Xbox Series X console that, interestingly, isn't actually a working unit. The custom-designed console represents an Aetheryte Crystal from the popular MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV, which is set to debut on the Xbox platform. The catch is that this specific unit is purely for artistic display, as mentioned in the terms of the competition it's part of. Nevertheless, the lucky winner will not only receive this "non-functional" art piece but also a fully operational Xbox Series X, the Final Fantasy XIV Complete Collector's Edition, and a 12-month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. It's been noted that the Xbox version of the game requires both the game's subscription as well as an Xbox Game Pass subscription, differing from the PlayStation and PC versions that don't require the additional subscription. Final Fantasy XIV Online is currently in open beta on Xbox, with a full release scheduled for March 21, 2024.

What is included in the Microsoft Final Fantasy 14 Xbox Series X giveaway?

The giveaway includes a custom, non-functional Final Fantasy XIV Xbox Series X console for display, a working Xbox Series X console, the Final Fantasy XIV Complete Collector's Edition, and a 12-month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.

Final Fantasy XIV is a critically acclaimed MMORPG developed by Square Enix, known for its engaging storytelling and expansive world. The game initially launched in 2010, but after a poor reception, it underwent a complete revamp and re-released as Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn in 2013. Since then, it has seen multiple successful expansions, with the latest, Endwalker, being praised for bringing a long-running story arc to a satisfying conclusion. The entry of Final Fantasy XIV on Xbox opens the realm of Eorzea to a broader audience, potentially increasing its already significant player base.
